I must admit that in recent times of mobile mania and king of the lowest call rates, Zong has come up with brilliant campaign ideas. They are simple, catchy and to the point. Not like Mobilink's coverage campaign which gives a hint of maybe Mobilink might bring in iPhone to the Pakistani market in a legit way. Even if they do manage to bring iPhone, it would be too darn expensive and more over, for most iPhone fans in Pakistan, it will be old news.
Anyway, so I was praising Zong's marketing campaigns. It really seems that their marketing dept. is on their toes and whenever a competitor comes up with a campaign, Zong's marketing department knows how to exploit it. Take for example, Mobilink came up with Jazz One in which the hot chick (man she's really hot) calls the professor Einstein and asks him not to do calculation or try to understand "bara aanay" kind of tariff. That was a direct hit on Zong. But before Zong could say anything, Ufone came up with the boxing ring ad and taunted on the "Einstein" phrase. Zong came back and delivered a simple ad in which a model just walks up and says that forget Rs. 1, we've got something better.
Also the Rs. 3 unlimited SMS campaign was really cool. Like Zong just told everyone that they don't have to subscribe to monthly unlimited SMS packages (hint: Telenor Djuice) but all they need to do is that whenever they send SMS, it will be charged Rs. 3 per day and for that day they can send unlimited SMS. Its more like misleading as well because there is not even a single person I know who doesn't send a single SMS per day. So if the customer sends one SMS, they are charged Rs. 3 and more they send, the less the over all charges will become.
I also particularly like some of Ufone's campaigns as well. Not because they are the best company for the buck but because of the humor Faisal Qureshi and the gang has put in the ad. The punch lines, the catchy phrases and the entire situation in which the ads are made. Good one. I just hope they could concentrate more on their network issues as much as they do on the ads.
So, this was about Zong, which I think was worth mentioning. One last word for Zong, pretty boys won't be able to get the market as much as pretty gals would do. Remember that!!

Well... I was with Zong until their recent campaign. I agree that they did well in outshining others with their launch campaign and unlimited SMS one.
But their recent 8 Anay ad didn't leave a good impression. for 2 reasons:
1 - They themselves are charging 40 Paisa on first 30 seconds...so don't blame others for lieing, coz u r doing it uself too
2 - They deceived in ad by saying that any number any network, call in 50 Paisa - But in actuality this is only one number that can be added to get this 50 paisa rate...!
Regards
I agree with you Aamir as far as the deception part goes. Our telcos have a tendency to go overboard with promises and fine print campaigns.
At the end of the day all that matters is who gets the most customers.
Although Zong ads are catchy but I still have yet to see anyone from my few hundred mobile contact list to shift to Zong.
So full marks for creativity for Zong.
