Ok, so the word is out from the insider in Telenor that it will be launching its WiMAX services in first quarter next year (2009). I know one thing for sure that Telenor has spent a huge amount of time working on the R&D for this project. The first I came to know about Telenor coming up with WiMAX was in December 2006, when Wateen was preparing to give out user trials in Lahore. The word at the time was that there were 5 people working on the project and it was so hush that the employees who were working on the project research had to sign an oath declaring that if they spoke a word of it to anyone, they will be promptly fired. So much for keeping the word.
Anyhow, now it seems that after Wateen and then Mobilink, Telenor will the third "major" company in the telco sector to jump the WiMAX bandwagon. Telenor Norway already selected Air Span for their WiMAX project but I don't think Air Span would be able to come to Pakistan as it is an Israeli company by origin.
Let us just wait and see what Telenor comes up with in the near future, as for me, I see the future to be really fast Internet connection at the rate which is cheaper than your cable wala bill.
